New for 2023, we are no longer accepting paid reservations. You may contact us to be placed on an interest list. After kids are born and have been evaluated, if your kid of interest becomes available, you will be notified, and have 24 hours to place a 50% hold deposit on that kid. If a deposit is not received, we will contact the next person on the interest list. This is to ensure that we can get kids into their new homes in a timely manner.

Purchasing priority is given to performance homes that participate in DHIR and Linear Appraisal production programs, and show.

Breeding schedules are subject to change until confirmation of pregnancy via ultrasound.

Curbstone Valley does not accept conditional interest-list requests based upon coat color, eye color, wattles, moonspots, etc., as none of those traits have any bearing on dairy performance.

Curbstone Valley Farm always reserves the right to retain ANY kid(s), doe or buck, from any breeding listed on a kidding schedule.

Curbstone Valley Farm reserves the right to refuse, or cancel, any sale for any reason, including, but not limited to, a reserved kid being deemed unfit for registration; non-payment of funds due; welfare concerns related to transportation, housing, or husbandry at the destination farm.

Deposits and Payment

Once you are notified your kid is available, a 50% hold deposit will be required to secure your kid, and the balance is due prior to transport/at time of pick up. If you fail to pick up your kid, the deposit is forfeit. There is no fee to be placed on an interest list. Pick up/transportation is expected within two weeks of notification that your kid is available, unless other arrangements have been made. We accept PayPal for your convenience, Square Pay on-farm, or checks made payable to “Curbstone Valley Farm”. All checks MUST clear prior to picking up your kid.

Curbstone Valley Farm abides by the ADGA Recommended Trade Practices for Members (ADGA Guidebook, Bylaws, Article XIX).

PLEASE READ OUR RESERVATIONS & SALES POLICY BEFORE RESERVING A GOAT

PayPal Acceptance Mark

We do accept payments and deposits via PayPal. Please contact us before submitting your deposit to ensure availability.

Kid Reservations & Boarding Fees

No kids will be considered to be secured for pick-up without a deposit. All kids at Curbstone Valley Farm are bottle-raised. Doe and Buck kids may be available at 4-6 weeks of age to experienced homes. As hay prices continue to escalate, doelings and bucklings not picked up from the farm within 14 days of notification may incur a $5 per day boarding fee to help cover some of the costs of care, and feeding.

Unless other arrangements are made, animals not collected or shipped within 14 days will be resold, and any deposits will be forfeited.

All kids are disbudded (this is NOT optional), tattooed, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to leaving the farm.

Transportation

More regarding transportation may be found on our Sales Policy page. Once you have been notified that your reservation has been fulfilled, you have 14 days to arrange transportation. It MAY be possible to deliver your kid to a show we attend, but do not expect that we can always do that when placing yourself on the wait list. Transportation is the responsibility of the BUYER. We run a busy farm, with long days, twice daily milkings, feeding, and cleaning, and although we’re happy to assist you with making travel arrangements, we do not have time to make those arrangements for you.

Pickup & Delivery

Due to our hectic farm schedule, we prefer that goats are picked up directly from the farm. However, we may be able to accommodate delivery of purchased kids to any shows we attend in 2023.

Space, however, may be VERY limited. Please contact us to determine delivery availability, or if you have any questions about reserving or purchasing our goats.

Shelter, Food, and Health Care

No kid will be released from the farm without adequate housing and fencing at its destination farm. Goats need to have shelter from foul weather, and protection from predators. Especially small goats, who are frequent targets of stray dogs, coyotes, bobcats, and mountain lions. We are happy to discuss housing needs, and options, with you at the time you place your reservation.

We recommend having all feeding supplies in advance of your new goat(s) arriving home. If bringing home an unweaned bottle kid, at a minimum you will need a bottle, Pritchard teats, and a supply of clean, safe milk.

Effective June 2023, antibiotics, that were once available over the counter at local feed stores, to treat common ailments, such as pneumonia, will no longer be available without a veterinary prescription (this regulation has been in place for California residents since 2017). Depending on your location, veterinarians with expertise in ruminant health care may be very difficult to find. We strongly recommend locating and securing a veterinarian in advance of bringing your animal home, as a VCPR with your veterinarian will be required to obtain any medications for your new charges. While no animal will be allowed to leave the farm in ill health, shipping stress, variable weather conditions, and simply being in a new environment, can all cause a young kid to have health challenges on arrival. Waiting to establish a relationship with a veterinarian until your animal is ill, is not advised. Goats are stoic creatures, and often won’t show they are ill until the illness is advanced.

Buck Reservations

Please note that if you are interested in obtaining a breeding buck, all bucks are pending evaluation once they are born. Only the exceptional bucks each season will be permitted to remain intact, and sold under our herd name, the vast majority will be wethered and sold as pets. All bucks not retained to the herd, or secured with a deposit, will be wethered.

Wether Reservations

We delay castration for the sake of our wether’s urinary tract health. If you are interested in purchasing a wether, we recommend contacting us to be placed on an interest list. See sales policy for more information regarding the sale of wethers.

Available Discounts:

Beginning in 2022, in addition to the discounts below, when a current season doe kid is purchased, and sold to an ACTIVE DHIR performance home, a one time $100 discount will be applied at the time of sale. Proof of participation in DHIR through ADGA and/or AGS is required to qualify for this discount. At least one previous completed lactation under your herd code must be on file to qualify. Adult does for sale that have qualified with *M and/or *D previously through DHIR do NOT qualify for this discount.

If you purchase a goat from Curbstone Valley Farm, and participate in an official registry-sanctioned production program, through ADGA, AGS, or NDGA, we will provide a one-time $50 refund of your purchase price for each animal (wethers excepted) that has either:

1) Proof of earning a milk star through ADGA/AGS/NDGA, either through the completion of a standard 305-day DHIR milk test program, or an official one-day milk test (does only). Proof can be provided either through ADGA’s online reporting service, a copy of the revised registration papers, or a copy of the doe’s star certificate.

and/or

2) Proof of participation in ADGA’s linear appraisal program (this includes bucks, and kids). A copy of ADGA’s linear appraisal score sheet for the animal purchased from us must be provided to qualify for the refund.

Our goats are registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA), and the American Goat Society (AGS), and are eligible for registration with the Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association (NDGA).

We maintain a disease-negative herd, and test all members of our herd annually for CAE and CL. Fecal PCR testing for Johne’s disease is conducted through the California Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) Laboratory at UC Davis. New additions to the farm are quarantined and tested when they arrive on the farm before being introduced to the herd. Our herd was last tested February 2024, and has always tested negative for CAE, CL, and Johne’s disease.
