Sometimes a cross works even better than predicted. Aria is one of Calypso’s quadruplets from 2020, one of the most strikingly consistently long, wide, angular sets of kids ever born on the farm.

Aria’s dam is a finished permanent champion, appraising at 90 as a four year-old, and recognized as an ANDDA Total Performer for 2019.

Her dam’s dam, Ocean Flower, is one of the best foundation does in this herd, and has aged beautifully, appraising EEEE 92 at eight years of age, and had the prestige of being the first Nigerian Dwarf to be awarded Best in Show at our most competitive Northern California show, REDGA, the same season.

Strength in the mammary system abounds already in Aria’s maternal line, and bringing in Peridot’s strong mammary structural and production genetics seemed like the sensible choice.

Aria freshened with triplets in the spring of 2022, and at the end of October that year, as our appraisal was very late in the season, she had the distinction of being our highest appraising first freshening two year-old, with a score of VEVV 89, with scores of E in rump, front legs, and rear legs. In the spring of 2023, she was appraised again, as a second freshening 3 year-old, scoring VVEE 90.

Unfortunately, Aria was a baby during our fire and evacuation year. As a result of the upheaval relocating the herd to the east coast, Aria had not seen the show ring at all as a milking doe until the spring of 2024, as a four year-old. However, she readily floated to the head of her class at the NoVA Spring Fling show, despite record heat and humidity that weekend, and went on to be awarded Best Senior Doe In Show!
