Melia literally means honey, or sweet. In Greek mythology, as a daughter of Oceanus, Melia was an Oceanid nymph, and mother of Phoroneus and Aegialeus.

Our own Melia is the daughter of Ocean, and her sire is Desert Indigo, the son of our most productive doe in the herd, Lotus. Ocean herself has proven to have excellent milking capacity, but our hope with this cross, is not only improved capacity to milk, but also improved levelness throughout lactation.

This doe is remarkably plain in appearance, considering both her dam and sire are bestowed with a lot of white splashy markings, as are most of her siblings (Melia was one of quints), so in appearance alone she stood out from the moment she was born.

Earning her restricted junior leg as a dry yearling, Melia is a beautiful, and correct little doe. Her daughter, Dulce Mia, resides at Sonview Ranch, and her 2019 doeling is retained to the herd.

As a three year-old second freshener, despite only freshening with a single doeling, again, Melia was scored E 90. She's a beautiful doe, and our hooves are crossed that she will settle with more than a single for 2020. She has lots of udder potential, but just needs to demonstrate more capacity.
