Following in her dam’s snow and ice naming theme, Whitney is named for the valley glacier found on Mount Shasta, in Northern California.

Whitney’s dam, Neve Ice, proved to have incredible capacity as a first freshening two year-old, already exhibiting that classic ‘dairy wedge’, even at a young age, and Whitney appears to be following in her dam’s footsteps.

This doe reminds me so much of her dam, not just in color and pattern, but also in structure, and attitude. Whitney is long, level, with a beautiful front end assembly. Whitney scored E for front legs, shoulders, and rear legs on her first appraisal as a two  year-old first freshener.

We had previously retained Whitney’s sister, Chanterelle, and loved her structure so much we repeated the breeding and retained Whitney.  We were questioning the need to keep both daughters, but when we suddenly lost Neve to a duodenal rupture shortly after kidding in the spring of 2018, we simply could not let Whitney go.

While Whitney’s dam always placed well in the ring as a junior, she was prone to carrying a little excess weight, and that made it difficult to show her to her best potential. Her daughters, however, have consistently placed well, and having a little more dairy strength than her dam, Whitney earned her junior Grand Champion restricted leg as a dry yearling.

Whitney gifted us two doelings in 2019, one of whom, Black Kaweah (Raven) sired by CH Alethia HB Destiny’s Starman, has been retained.
