The breeding that produced Gwennie was planned about three years before she was conceived. When first placing a reservation on our Peridot buck, THIS was the first cross I had in mind. Finding a buck with the strengths I was looking to improve, without setting the traits we love about Rowena backwards, was a tall order. Rowena is one of the most structurally correct does on the farm, and also one of our most productive. Not perfect, but with the right buck, her daughters might come close in both categories.

Of course, eager to retain a doe from such a cross, we waited with bated breath for five months for this gorgeous doeling to arrive.  Stunning from birth, as she matured she was a constant eye-catcher. Gwen freshened in the spring of 2022 with quads, sired by Space Oddity. Her udder is very reminiscent of her dam, and although her teat placement is somewhat improved over Rowena, the placement is more to the lateral aspect of the udder than we would prefer. We retained her daughter sired by Oddie, Rhiannon, and will look to see further placement improvement in her.
