I’ve admired Algedi Farm D Capella for many years, and once owned a son of hers, that I purchased the same year I brought Ocean into the herd.
Fast forward to 2019, and I had the incredible pleasure of seeing Capella in person at a show, as an 11 year-old, tenth freshening doe. She honestly did not look a day over four years, and handily walked away with Best of Breed in both rings (at a previous show earlier in the year she also walked off with Best Senior Doe in Show). She readily deserved all of the accolades she received in the ring in 2019. One couldn’t help but be impressed by her very presence. Her owner, Dana, once said “This little doe never ceases to amaze me!”. I absolutely agree!
Capella is simply unstoppable, aging beautifully, and gracefully. She has the type of longevity that commands respect in the breed. I’ve witnessed Nigerian does half her age fall apart, and sadly have owned a couple over the years. Our focus as breeders should be to produce animals that are structurally correct, with long and functional lifespans, and Capella embodies that. Her structural strengths are why she is still knocking the socks off the judges. Lots of young and up-and-coming talent out there, but Capella still holds her ground against her competition.
So, without further ado, meet Capella’s 2019 buckling, Alethia DOH The Big Bang (aka ‘Leonard’). Leonard is linebred on SGCH Rosasharn’s TL Zenith, and GCH Algedi Farm Drops of Jupiter. Leonard’s sire, GCH Algedi Farm DJ Drops of Honey +*B, is a Jupiter and Tupelo son, and proven herd sire, and Capella is a Zenith daughter, so Leonard is a little bundle of what some of consider to be the ultimate Algedi trifecta. Jupiter, Tupelo, and Zenith.
A young and incredibly handsome buckling, Leonard is long but balanced, level, very dairy, and standing on beautifully strong feet and legs. He is also the sweetest little man in the buckling pen this season. We’re so excited, and very grateful to Dana and Siena, for entrusting Capella’s special boy to our care. He complements the genetics already in our herd, beautifully, and we hope to do both Alethia, and Algedi Farm, proud as we prove out this handsome young buck.
Leonard’s daughter, Kuromitzu, has been retained to the herd.
