For this frightfully fiendish Fowl Friday we carved a pumpkin for the pullets…
After initial introductions, one of our Black Australorp pullets tried to scare our carved creation…BOO!
A few pullets were clearly suspicious of the pumpkin’s presence…
but others didn’t seem to mind, especially as the pumpkin was handing out treats.
However, this pumpkin doesn’t fit in with the flock, so it wasn’t long before our fiendish fowl turned on the pumpkin, and began to peck out its eyes…and pull out its teeth, one by one…
OUCH! No wonder this poor pumpkin was worried!
Siegfried of course, all the while, was keeping a watchful eye…
We carved a second pumpkin for the Turkeys. This pumpkin was a gift, kindly grown by Rachel and Tom of Dog Island Farm.
Unfortunately, having heard rumors about the untimely demise of the first pumpkin, as soon as we set this pumpkin in the turkey pen…
The turkeys didn’t seem to mind the mess too much though…
…and quickly helped to clean up.

Trick or Cheep!
Hi Clare, This made me smile. Good job carving the pumpkins, though the flock didn’t seem too impressed. 🙂 Happy Halloween!
Clare, that is hysterical and such a clever post! and you carved such a beautiful pumpkin. The birds must think you’re pretty special for what you did for them. Happy Halloween lady.
hahahahahhahaha!!!! Too funny.
Thanks for the laugh! This is a very clever post. Happy Halloween to you.
Dear Clare, What a fun posting which really made me smile. And, what artfully crafted pumpkins…such a pity that your feathered friends paid so little attention to your sculpting talents.
Great Pumpkin Treats!
love the way you carved them. It must have been a very horrific Halloween for any other pumpkin out there watching the massacre.
What a fun, Friday post. Looks like they really enjoyed the pumpkins. Happy Halloween!
Hah! What a way to go – looks like the pumpkins didn’t stand a chance. I do love the irony of pumpkin-eating turkey.
That was a fun post – it made me smile though the Turkey pumpkin was a little too realistic!
Oh Claire! You have me laughing out loud! And me feeling crummy with a cold. Your post is hilarious but your artistry in carving greatly admired. ;>))
I think this is the best Halloween post I have seen so far. I love how the big black hen is taking on the pumpkin. I just just here it saying Come on, do you want a piece of me?
Happy Halloween Clare!
Thanks for the fun post, Clare, sure to make all smile 🙂
Clare, I love this post! It’s funny and I might copy the “dripping-mouth” pumpkin for my kids. Your chickens know a good food when they see one!
Love, love, love it! The first pumpkin was really scary after the chickens first got at it! I chose the same design for mine – though yours came out better. I changed the mouth to make it look like it was barfing for my guacamole dip center piece for my party…
Oh, poor pumpkin! Ah, lucky chickens! Great post!
Poor pumpkins!!!!!
What fun! I loved the crrrreeepy sight of the light pumpkins. Glad the chicken enjoyed their pumpkin, I’m always surprised that they really don’t taste all that great (pumpkin, I mean).
So funny! You are good at carving pumpkins, too bad the flocks don’t seem to appreciate fine art.
My oh my you are soooo talented. I just love your pumpkins! I see your birds are looking very very healthy and happy. They are really pretty birds. Happy Halloween.
I loved it! It was a delightfully frightful Halloween tale. The video was fun, too. I liked the music!
Hah! This was too hilarious! Just goes to show that chickens are quite plucky and full of personality.
Clare your carvings are a work of art despite being eventually hen pecked. Loved the post 🙂
Oh my gosh — this was amazing! Those poor pumpkins didn’t stand a chance!! (The puking pumpkin just cracked me up!!) 😀
Wonderful! Wonderful!!! Thanks for the much needed laugh!!
Great video. The chickens had a fun Halloween. Good for a hearty laugh. Loved the carvings, too.
Enjoy your pumpkin story. Lucky chicks! The music is scary.
Thanks for the laugh! Very fun post.
Thanks for the link! Your pumpkins are great! I regret not getting around to carving the ones we kept.
I wonder how many other chickens and turkeys are lucky enough to get their own carved pumpkins? Very cute!
This was great!!!!!! Sig seemed to be saying “Make my day, buddy!”
Great job on the video. Very clever. Love it.
