Curbstone Valley M Syrah

Syrah is another young doe in the 2022 group that consistently catches one’s eye. Her sire’s dam, Rowena, is a personal favorite for both type and production. With Hanukkah’s background genetics, retaining a buck from that cross was an easy choice. Syrah is Myrddin’s first retained daughter.

Syrah’s dam, Moselle, is petite in stature, but despite relentless humidity the summer of her first freshening, and highly variable quality hay, Moselle maintained her lactation well, and has a lovely well-supported, udder. With Syrah, we were looking for more length of body relative to her dam, as her maternal line tends to carry less length than we prefer, but has high, wide, and well supported mammary systems. So far, it appears that Myrddin has fulfilled the desire for length, and improved Syrah’s dairy strength relative to her dam. How she will freshen remains to be seen, but we are very optimistic.
