In Greek mythology, Calypso was an Oceanid, a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys.

It was very difficult deciding who to retain from the Ocean and Darby quadruplet daughters in 2015, as this breeding produced four beautiful, very consistent kids. They all had very similar structural qualities, with long lean necks, angular hocks, high escutcheons, very good length of body, and incredibly stretchy dairy skin. As such, we elected to retain three of Ocean’s four daughters that year.

Calypso is renowned for having the most endearing way of looking at people when she wants something. She tilts her head, just little to the side, and stares up, pleadingly with her big brown eyes, and it’s simply impossible to say no to her.

At just nine and a half weeks old, Calypso earned her Grand Champion Junior leg at the NVDGA show in Red Bluff, despite the fact that she insisted on walking around the ring on just two legs most of the time.

Calypso freshened with a beautiful udder, retaining her dam’s teat length, with slightly better rear udder height, and width to the arch, than her dam. Overall, a very capacious doe for a first freshener, with more length of body, and capacity than her dam.

As a first freshening two year-old Calypso was consistently at the head of her class in the show ring, earning a Grand Champion and Best of Breed at her second show that season. Unfortunately, show season was cut short in 2017, but trotted her back out early 2018, where she finished her permanent championship at her first show that season.

Calypso has two daughters retained to the herd, Musette, and Jazztronica, both of whom will freshen in the spring of 2020.
