For this frightfully fiendish Fowl Friday we carved a pumpkin for the pullets…

Why does this pumpkin look so worried?

After initial introductions, one of our Black Australorp pullets tried to scare our carved creation…BOO!

"I am bigger than you...BOO!"

A few pullets were clearly suspicious of the pumpkin’s presence…

"He looks shifty to me...it's the eyes"

but others didn’t seem to mind, especially as the pumpkin was handing out treats.

"Pumpkin? What pumpkin? I don't see a pumpkin"

However, this pumpkin doesn’t fit in with the flock, so it wasn’t long before our fiendish fowl turned on the pumpkin, and began to peck out its eyes…and pull out its teeth, one by one…

"Help...me!!!"

Poor pumpkin...pecked to pieces by pullets

OUCH!  No wonder this poor pumpkin was worried!

T'was a fowl crime...

...with much of the evidence consumed...

Siegfried of course, all the while, was keeping a watchful eye…

"Nothing to see here...move along!"

We carved a second pumpkin for the Turkeys.  This pumpkin was a gift, kindly grown by Rachel and Tom of Dog Island Farm.

...it seems this pumpkin wasn't feeling very well...

Unfortunately, having heard rumors about the untimely demise of the first pumpkin, as soon as we set this pumpkin in the turkey pen…

EWWW!

The turkeys didn’t seem to mind the mess too much though…

...Mmmm...pumpkin...tasty...

…and quickly helped to clean up.

This pumpkin was lucky, just a missing tongue, and some minor tooth wear thus far
