Of the three does born from this cross in 2024, other than standing out due to her black coloration, Capella appeared to be structurally the most like her dam, GCH Alethia HB When Stars Align. While that is fine, it was not quite what the hope was from this cross. In some respects, Capella was a bit of an ugly duckling compared with her two sisters, Alsephina, and Situla, and her brother, Rigel, who all seemed to trend in general appearance more after their sire, Dauntless.

None of this is bad, however, as Capella’s dam has always been admired for her width, and capacity, not to mention her udder. Finishing her permanent championship, and scoring a 47 in RUA, with a 40 in RUH, as a first freshening two year-old, and it is why we were thrilled that Allie graced us with triplet does in 2024. There is nothing wrong with a little black-colored carbon-copy of Allie.

The choice to retain Capella, though, was as much to compare her to her sisters, versus her dam, as she matures. She excelled over her sister, Alsephina, at the NOVA Spring Fling Show in July as a 3 month-old kid, but Capella was quite growthy as a young doeling, and both of her sisters have since caught up with her, but Capella does still retain the advantage comparatively in a little extra width. Of course, the bottom line will be seeing Capella and her sisters freshen in the spring of ’26. Hooves crossed!
