We had originally intended to cross Lotus to Hanukkah, but as Lotus is now retired, we elected to work with her daughter instead.
Kolibri is a Lotus granddaughter, and her dam Redwood Ivy is one of my favorite Lotus daughters. While her sire predictably diminished her production, Ivy did gain some of the structural improvements we were looking for.
Kolibri is similar in general appearance to her dam, and has some promising potential, already showing improvement in strength and width over her dam. She also has some improvements in production, and udder structure, including increased medial strength, and teat length. Although she was appraised late in the year, and looking somewhat stale, she earned a very respectable V+VV 86 as a first freshener. We are very much looking forward to seeing a second freshening on this doe.
