Jazztronica, and her sister Musette, both freshened this year with lovely udders. Jazzie is on the more petite end of the spectrum for our herd, measuring at a mere 19 inches at two years of age, but is a very correct doe all around, including in mammary structure. Paris was one of three doelings that Jazzie produced in 2020, and we were so impressed with both Jazzie’s ease of kidding, and first freshening udder structure, that we decided to retain a doe from this breeding.

Paris has some strong genetics behind her. Ocean Flower is her maternal grand-dam, and the most influential of our foundation does. Her dam, Calypso, has proven to be one of Ocean’s best daughters, and consistently produces beautiful width in her progeny. Crossing Calypso with Destiny’s Starman produced some beautiful kids, including Paris’ dam, Jazztronica. While Jazzie is small, she is a very correct doe, consistently showing at the head of her classes. Even at a young age, Paris exudes dairy strength. She is well balanced with the width, capacity, and substance we look for, yet still feminine, with a lovely long neck, and the potential to be a little bigger than her dam at maturity.

Although shows have been non-existent throughout the pandemic, Paris did have an opportunity to step in one show ring in the spring of 2021, at a show with 75 junior entries, she quickly floated to the top of her class, and secured her junior dry champion leg at the Midstate Dairy Goat Show in Paso Robles, CA.

Unfortunately, when Paris freshened in 2022 she had a small single doeling. This resulted in her being rather stale and overconditioned by the time our appraisal was scheduled at the end of October, and her general appearance and mammary scores suffered accordingly. While her production was perfectly respectable, a single kid did limit her overall mammary capacity as a first freshener. That said, she still managed to produce 800 lbs of milk in her first freshening. Once again, in 2023, she also produced a single doeling, so we will hope that she freshens with a few extra kids in her next freshening, so we can really see what she is capable of.
