Not looking to add any more outside members to the herd, Penny suddenly became available, and this was an opportunity that simply could not be passed up.

Penny’s dam, Penny for Luck, is the daughter of Castle Rock Penny Wise, who in turn in the dam of our young dry yearling, Penny Serenade, so this is a genetic line we are very familiar with.

Her sire, Cleveland Sage, is renowned for consistently stamping his daughters with beautiful udders, and Penny is no exception.

When you put your hands on Penny, she has the most incredible stretchy dairy skin. Penny has a beautiful face, straight front and rear legs, and a well attached, capacious udder, with a strong medial, near-perfect teat placement, and is one of those does that is simply a joy to hand milk.

Penny is a productive doe, despite standing at a mere 17 inches tall, producing a very respectable 740 pounds of milk in 247 days as a yearling first-freshener.

As much as we love Penny, and her beautiful udder, her rump structure has precluded her from having smooth and easy kiddings. After two consecutive very challenging kiddings in a row, we have elected to retire Penny for humane reasons, and work with her daughter, Gold Laurel, instead.
