Another daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, in Greek mythology, Ianeira is an Oceanid nymph thought to have been a goddess of the Ionian tribe.

Neira is the fifth Ocean Flower daughter we’ve elected to retain to the herd. Although similar in overall structure and conformation, Neira has a little more width and capacity than her sister, Melia, more characteristic of her sire, Desert Indigo.

Neira’s udder is beautiful and capacious. Compared to her sister, she is more similar in body type to her dam. Unfortunately, the one trait we hoped to correct was rear leg angulation, not Ocean’s strength, and Neira’s rear legs are very reminiscent of her dam. However, thus far, her kids have been much more angular in the rear.

Neira produced quadruplets both as a first and second freshener, quints as a third freshener, and is a phenomenally easy kidder. Every year she keeps us on our toes, as she is the only doe in the herd that insists on kidding standing up. More than once we’ve caught a kid mid-air, as she barely notices them as they slide out.

Unfortunately, unlike her dam, Neira has not been particularly generous with daughters. In her first two freshenings, she produced a total of seven bucks, and finally, a lovely little doeling in the spring of 2019, Lysianassa, who now resides at Flying U Bar, in Texas. In 2020, Neira finally produced three does with Sinai Thunder EX Hanukkah, including Galene who is retained here in the herd. A beautiful, dairy, angular young doe, who was one of a trio of Hanukkah daughters that placed in the top five of their enormous dry yearling class at the Mid State Dairy Goat Show in Paso Robles, in 2021, and was our highest appraising first freshening doe in 2022! Never overlook a solid brood doe that always produces better than herself!
