Bella was the smallest doeling born on the farm in 2014, and due to her size, she was easy to overlook. However, as we were watching Bella grow, and lengthen out, she really began to catch the eye.

At her first show, at just two months old, Bellona was 2nd place junior kid in the first two rings she set her hooves in (second to Curbstone Valley Mojave Rose).  Through the remainder of show season she had little trouble placing first or second in her class, earning a RGCH win at REDGA at three months of age, but lacked the overall growthiness and size needed to compete with the larger does in the champion rounds. However, despite her small stature, as a dry yearling, she really caught a judge’s eye for general appearance, and overall correctness in conformation, and earned her restricted leg.

Although she looks incredibly like her dam did at this age, it’s unlikely this petite doe will ever aspire to replace her dam as herd queen. Bellona was named for the Roman Goddess of war, due to her dam’s propensity for asserting her position in the herd, but Bella doesn’t have a feisty bone in her body. She is a quiet, patient, tremendously sweet, and calm doe, that adores being around people, and is the only doe we’ve ever prepped for show that has actually fallen asleep in the middle of getting a hair cut. It’s so very difficult not to fall in love with her.

Standing at just over 18 inches as a first freshener, Bellona really is maturing into a beautiful long-bodied doe, with a long neck, open ribbing, and straight front legs. She was a little slow to show her length of body, as is typical of kids produced by her sire, but by the time she was a yearling, her body length had significantly improved.

Bella has very nice angular hocks, with tighter shoulders, and significantly improved brisket extension relative to her dam, with a well-attached, balanced udder.
