Pomona is named for the Roman goddess of orchards and fruit trees. Although it's difficult to tell from a photograph, especially as she is a little over-conditioned in the photograph as a dry yearling, Mona has very good length of body, significantly improved brisket extension relative to her dam, and she's sporting incredible width between her angular hocks.

As a first freshener, Pomona's dam, Minerva, easily earned her advanced registry milking star, with both ADGA and AGS, for milk volume, butterfat, and protein. Despite being one of the smallest senior does on the farm, she produced more than 800 lbs of milk as a first freshener. As a second freshener Minnie came roaring out of the gate, producing almost 5 lbs of milk on her first test at 24 days fresh, ultimately producing 1090 lbs of milk in a 303 day lactation.

Pomona is the smallest of Minnie's daughters that were born in 2015, but her personality is larger than life, and we have very little doubt that someday she will usurp the title of 'herd queen'. Shakespeare's quote 'though she be but little, she is fierce!' suits her perfectly, but Mona is also incredibly affectionate, and she's always the first to try to leap into a lap...even as a dry yearling. We're very much looking forward to watching another Minnie daughter freshen in spring of 2017.
