This week we made a concerted effort to get into the spirit of the season.
Is it really only two weeks until Christmas?
For some reason we seem to be in denial that the holidays are now only a couple of weeks away. So, it was time to grab the tree…
We learned last year NOT to let the dog help carry the tree...
…retrieve our ornaments from the dark recesses of the closet…
The Curbstone Valley holiday tree has a chocolate and copper-colored theme
including some lovely inedible poinsettias (when you have animals, you strive for holiday decorations that are non-toxic and can’t be easily consumed).

With the tree in place, finally feeling a little festive, our attention was turned toward the coop. You may have noticed here and here, that we always include the chickens in the season’s festivities, and Christmas is no exception.
The Curbstone Coop is now lit up for the holidays
The turkeys however are much more wary than the chickens, and very easily alarmed, so we only did a smidge of holiday sprucing to the turkey pen, including just a few lights at the very top of the pen…

We left the lights off the wreath though, as Jenny seemed to be bewildered enough by the wreath ribbons.

The pullets though seemed to enjoy our efforts. Our white Delawares are probably the closest we’ll get to anything snowy this season.

That is sweet having all the animals join in the Christmas cheer. Love that you decorated the pens. I thought the video was both funny and darling.
Very fun! Sadly, Mr. Mouse and I are still in remodeling hell, and live in the kitchen and bedroom. So, even if the decorations weren’t in storage, I’d have nothing to decorate…
I guess I’m alternating between a festive and a fowl mood these days, wishing to be back in my house. Thankfully, there’s always the garden…

Love the photo of your dog assisting in getting the tree ready. My dogs normally turn branches into mulch.

We still have to dig out decorations and get us a tree.. life just’s been too busy. I recieved an unexpected parcel from a friend with a xmas present though so I guess I better make haste setting up a tree so I can stick it under there.
Having watched the video I can see no reason why you could not train your birds up to their fine standard. A twinkling coop and a feathery choir – what could be more Christmassy than that!
Oh, I wish we had a coop to decorate! Yours looks great. May no one peck/tug/rip/tear your decorations apart and strew about the property. And may you all have happy holidays, too.
Loved that video Clare – very funny. I like how you decorated the coop – I must let my friend see as I could just imagine her doing the same this year. That ribbon looks so rich and beautiful hanging from the entrance – I hope they don’t take a fancy to it.

How festive your little fowl paradise is! Merry Christmas to you and your pets! You have reminded me that I need to buy a few new doggie toys before decorating the tree. The little ones are less tempted when they have their own “possessions” to occupy them.
Dear Clare, I love the decorated chicken coop!! It is quite the most festive poultry house that I have ever seen and such fun. Goodness knows where your little film came from but it was so funny and made me laugh out loud.
Never thought of decorating the chicken coup, but why shouldn’t they join in. Have they put in a special request to Santa?

Fun post! Love the colors and the excitement. If I were one of the turkeys, after what happened to their friend last month, I’d be wary too.
