For this frightfully fiendish Fowl Friday we carved a pumpkin for the pullets…
After initial introductions, one of our Black Australorp pullets tried to scare our carved creation…BOO!
A few pullets were clearly suspicious of the pumpkin’s presence…
but others didn’t seem to mind, especially as the pumpkin was handing out treats.
However, this pumpkin doesn’t fit in with the flock, so it wasn’t long before our fiendish fowl turned on the pumpkin, and began to peck out its eyes…and pull out its teeth, one by one…
OUCH! No wonder this poor pumpkin was worried!
Siegfried of course, all the while, was keeping a watchful eye…
We carved a second pumpkin for the Turkeys. This pumpkin was a gift, kindly grown by Rachel and Tom of Dog Island Farm.
Unfortunately, having heard rumors about the untimely demise of the first pumpkin, as soon as we set this pumpkin in the turkey pen…
The turkeys didn’t seem to mind the mess too much though…
…and quickly helped to clean up.

Trick or Cheep!

Hi Clare, This made me smile. Good job carving the pumpkins, though the flock didn’t seem too impressed.
Happy Halloween!

Dear Clare, What a fun posting which really made me smile. And, what artfully crafted pumpkins…such a pity that your feathered friends paid so little attention to your sculpting talents.

Great Pumpkin Treats!
love the way you carved them. It must have been a very horrific Halloween for any other pumpkin out there watching the massacre.

Clare, I love this post! It’s funny and I might copy the “dripping-mouth” pumpkin for my kids. Your chickens know a good food when they see one!

Love, love, love it! The first pumpkin was really scary after the chickens first got at it! I chose the same design for mine – though yours came out better. I changed the mouth to make it look like it was barfing for my guacamole dip center piece for my party…

Poor pumpkins!!!!!
What fun! I loved the crrrreeepy sight of the light pumpkins. Glad the chicken enjoyed their pumpkin, I’m always surprised that they really don’t taste all that great (pumpkin, I mean).
So funny! You are good at carving pumpkins, too bad the flocks don’t seem to appreciate fine art.
